Q. Are there any tips regarding the operation of the ‘clam shell’ feature of the Prestan Professional Manikin?
A. When closing the manikin, the user needs to ensure that the shoulder latches are securing closed (you should hear a ‘snap’ when the latch is closed correctly). This will ensure that the manikin will function properly during training and it will also contribute to the long term durability and care of the manikin when it is being stored.
Q. Is there a methodology to unlatching and latching the ‘clam shell’ feature?
A. When unlatching and latching the manikin chest to the base frame, latch both the right and left latch at the same time. This will decrease the wear and tear on the manikin and contribute to the long term durability and care of the manikin when it is being stored.
Q. Should the head be on the manikin when the face shield lung bag is inserted?
A. It is recommended that the head be placed on the manikin prior to inserting the face shield lung bag. With the head placed on the manikin, it is easier to insert the face shield lung bag than it is when the head is not place on the manikin.
Q. How do you replace the two AA batteries?
A. Turn the manikin so that the bottom is facing up. The compartment for the batteries is on the upper left hand side of the back of the manikin. Open the lid on the battery compartment by using a small flat-edged screw driver pushing against the slotted side and lifting gently. Once the batteries are replaced, the lid is easily re-inserted by lining up the two tabs on the top of the compartment and pushing the lid into place.
Q. Is there any special environmental conditions that relate to the storage of the manikin?
A. As with all training equipment, the manikin should be carefully stored to avoid damage to it. Always store manikins in the carrying case that comes with the manikin and, if possible, place the manikin and carrying case back in the shipping container for storage. Never store the manikin on wet or damp ground or in an area that is damp. There is a circuit board inside the manikin (for the rate monitor) that may be affected by the dampness. Store in a clean, dry area at approximately 50%RH. It is also recommended that the head be removed from the torso and stored separately.
Q. What is the method that should be used to take the face skin off the manikin and then to put a new face skin on the manikin?
A. To remove the face skin, tilt the head back, grasp the plastic tab under the chin and lift the face straight up and off the head of the manikin. To put the face skin onto the head, lay the face skin down onto the head starting at the chin. Align the post on the inside of the face skin by the chin with the hole on the chin of the head and push the post into the hole. Do the same with the post and hole on the forehead of the face skin and the head.

Q. Can you use a Pocket Mask with a BVM on the new Prestan Professional Manikin?
A. You can use either a Pocket Mask alone or a Pocket Mask with a BVM on the Prestan Professional Manikin.
Q. Why is the Prestan Professional Manikin packaged as a 4-Pak instead of a 5-Pak?
A. This topic was researched very carefully and there are pros and cons verses any type of quantity packaging. After carefully reviewing the date, the decision to offer a 4-Pak was made since it appear to be the package of choice for the largest number of trainers that were part of the design team for the manikin.
